What is Tokyo Sky Tree?
At 634 meters (2,080 feet), Tokyo Sky Tree is the tallest radio tower in the world and the tallest structure in Japan.
There are two observation decks inside the tower, called “TEMBO Kairo” and “TEMBO DECK,” respectively. From these observation decks, visitors can enjoy beautiful views of central Tokyo. There is also a shopping mall, restaurants, cafes, and an entertainment complex called Skytree Town, which offers an enjoyable experience for visitors.
Especially at night, the Tokyo Sky Tree is beautifully illuminated, providing a fantastic night view. The beautiful night view of Tokyo makes it a popular spot for tourists and couples.
The Tokyo Sky Tree is not only a symbol of Japan, but also an important piece of telecommunications infrastructure. Its beautiful exterior and tourist facilities attract many visitors from Japan and abroad.
I climbed the Tokyo Sky Tree by stairs!
Unfortunately, the public is not allowed to climb the Tokyo Sky Tree by stairs, but here is a story about a project to climb the emergency stairs installed inside the central pillar at the center of the tower. The interior of the central pillar is an evacuation stairwell, with 2,523 evacuation stairs leading from the first floor to the second observation deck, which is 450 meters high.
In the past, a Guinness World Record for the “Stairway Vertical Marathon” was set at Tokyo Skytree.
The marathon started at 10:00 p.m., after the Skytree closed for business. The first time, the runner ran up the evacuation stairs from the ground to the TEMBO DECK, the first observation deck, about 350 meters above ground level, and then immediately took the elevator down and started up the stairs again; the fourth time, the runner ran all the way to the TEMBO Kairo, completing a total of 9097 steps.
The “stairway vertical marathon” is said to be classified as a form of “skyrunning,” a form of mountain running. Not only leg strength to step on the stairs, but also upper body strength and grip strength to effectively utilize the handrails are important.
If you are tempted to climb the Sky Tree by stairs after reading this, please contact Guinness World Records and Tokyo Sky Tree to inquire about climbing the Sky Tree.
If you can’t climb the Sky Tree by stairs, enjoy it in a different way!
The Tokyo Skytree observation deck offers breathtaking views of central Tokyo.
