avexdream audition debut
Dream is a Japanese female dance and vocal group that debuted in 2000 as dream, changed its name to DRM in 2007, changed its name to Dream in 2008, and was active until 2017.
At the end of their activities, their agency was LDH and their label was rhythm zone.
On August 10, 1999, Mai Matsumuro, Kana Tachibana, and Yu Hasebe won the grand prix at the “avex dream audition” held by avex and formed the group.
Kumi Koda won the runner-up prize at this audition.
On January 1, 2000, they debuted with the single “Movin’on. From their debut song, they received major tie-ups and appeared in commercials and were used in many commercial songs.
Started activities as DREAM
From left to right in the photo are Mai MATSUMURO, Yu HASEBE, and Kana TACHIBANA.
Mai MATSUMURO wrote the lyrics for the group’s songs from the single “realty” on August 9, 2000 to “SINCERELY-ever dream-” in 2002.
There are few groups that write lyrics and release songs as a group activity, and at that time, dream was probably the only one to do so. I think dream was the only one at that time.
The song “realty” was released in the summer, and its refreshing tone makes it hard to believe that it was written by a teenager.
Singing Anime Songs to Hit Songs
The single “My will” was released on November 29, 2000 and made the Oricon Top 10 for the first time (No. 6). An ending song for the anime “Inuyasha” and a big hit song for the group.
The music video was shot in the suburbs of Mt.
After releasing a number of singles and gaining momentum, Dream held a solo live concert in the summer of 2001, and expanded the scope of their work by shooting music videos overseas during the summer.
The song “Get Over” was used in the TV Tokyo anime “Hikaru no Go” and became a hit.
The song was a hit and was used at the beginning of live performances. The lyrics were very energetic and positive, and the content of mutual cooperation was wonderful.
Later, the group’s songs “Everlasting Snow” and “MUSIC IS MY THING” were also used in the TV Tokyo anime “Hikaru no Go”.
However, the following year, 2002, Mai Matsumuro graduated from the group and joined as a member, and the group restarted in 2003.
Risa Ai, Rie Abe, Aya Takamoto, Mami Nakajima, Shizuka Nishida, and Sayaka Yamamoto joined the group, and the average age of the members decreased.
The music for the restart was from an album of Western music covers. With the average age dropping and the number of members increasing, the group became more lively and released songs written by the group.
In 2004, Risa Ai graduated from the group, and the group became a seven-member group, which participated in a-nation in the summer and seemed to be riding a wave.
From DREAM to DRM
In the summer of 2007, the group name was changed from “dream” to “DRM” and the following year, the center member, Yu Hasebe, graduated.
After that, there was a crisis of dissolution, but the group moved to LDH office.
LDH is the office where “EXILE” and “JSoulBrothers 3rd Generation” are currently working.
In 2009, they changed their name back to “Dream” and started their activities.
The group escaped from the crisis of “disbanding” thanks to the challenge of touring around the country and getting many people to see their performances.
The group started to focus more on dance, and was reborn as a cool style group without the idol-like atmosphere of the past.
From DRM to Dream
In 2010, Kana Tachibana, an early member of the group, graduated from the group at the live after the release of this album, and the group was reduced to five members.
In 2011, “Dream,” “Happiness,” and “Flower” combined to form the unit “E-girls,
Immediately after that, Sayaka Yamamoto graduated,
E-girls went on to perform in the Kohaku Uta Gassen and sing anime theme songs, and in parallel with these activities, Dream also released a single.
In 2016, Erie Abe graduated from the E-girls and Dream was dropped from the group. DreamAya mainly works as a backstage support, while DreamAmi makes her CD debut as a solo artist, sings songs for Disney movies, and is currently married with a child. She is now married with a child, but is still active in the entertainment industry. She has more exposure in variety shows than the other three.
Dreamshizuka is a singer and performs live concerts, giving her many opportunities to sing. In 2024, she launched her own accessory brand “siiiiii” and is moving forward as an individual.
I wrote about Dreamshizuka this time. Currently, they are not active as a group, but each of them is active as a solo artist.
I hope they will come back, even if it is only for a day.
Please check out Dream’s performance!
